If you are thinking about getting your commercial driver’s license, give a call to Benji’s Driving School. Tony, the owner and head instructor, has many years experience driving Class 1 vehicles all over North America, so he knows the ICBC requirements and he also has the practical expertise from meeting all kinds of real world situations and highway issues professional drivers must deal with, from winter driving hazards, to treacherous mountain roads. I found Tony to be an excellent instructor. He customizes each driving lesson to the student driver’s progressing ability level, and sets lesson explanations and student driving maneuvers to stretch and build the student’s skills and driving confidence. Tony’s explanations are clear and he is very patient in answering student’s questions and reminding students as they handle the vehicle and add the new skills to their driving habit. Benji’s Driving School Class 1 program includes observation from the back seat (the sleeper cab seat) as more experienced students practice driving. I found observation a great way to get the concepts quickly for how to set up for a turn, how to control engine speed to shift smoothly, etc. By observing I saw Tony adjusts his teaching style to students learning style to help build students confidence and skills more easily. For enthusiastic students, Tony coaches by explaining and patiently reminding them if they forget something as they practice driving. For students who like more guidance, Tony is more boisterous and provides continuous directions and advice. So when practice driving the student only needs to follow Tony’s real time instructions on when to begin to turn, when to straighten out, when to shift, etc. Easy-pizzy! This gives even slightly timid students the confidence to learn the hands on “how-to” of safely controlling a large commercial tractor and trailer in city traffic and on high speed highways. The bottom line is Tony’s instruction style is very efficient and his training allowed me to get the Class 1 license in a shorter time and with less expense than other driving schools told me I would need. And since Benji’s Driving School has been graduating Class 1 drivers for many years, Tony has hundreds of successful former students in various positions in local trucking companies. Often these guys call Tony looking for good new drivers, so Class 1 graduates from Benji’s Driving School, including myself and several other students classmates benefitted from this network of professional contacts to help them in finding a professional driving job. So if you are thinking about getting your Class 1 license and a well paying professional driving job, I strongly recommend giving Tony a call.
